Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information Rooferinblackpool collects when you use rooferinblackpool.co.uk or send an enquiry through it, why we collect it, who receives it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. It is written to be read, not skimmed: if anything in it is unclear, ask us.

Who we are

Rooferinblackpool is the controller of the personal information described in this notice: we decide what is collected and why. You can reach us by email at hello@rooferinblackpool.co.uk.

What this notice covers

It covers rooferinblackpool.co.uk and the enquiries sent through it or by email to us. It does not cover the specialist firm your enquiry is passed to, who is a separate controller of what you go on to tell them and has a privacy notice of their own; nor any other website we link to.

What we collect, and where it comes from

Almost everything we hold about you is what you choose to send us. We collect:

  • Your name, email address and, if you give it, your telephone number
  • Your postcode, town or address, if you give it
  • What you tell us about your property and the problem, including anything the enquiry form asks about it and any photographs you attach
  • The date and time your enquiry arrived, and any later messages between us
  • Technical information the network that delivers the website records in its logs when your browser requests a page: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser type

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

The law lets us use personal information only for a reason it recognises. Ours are these.

  • To answer your enquiry and pass it to a specialist covering your area, which is the step you ask us to take when you send it (the steps taken at your request before any contract, and our legitimate interest in answering the people who contact us)
  • To keep a record of what was sent and what happened next, so that we can deal with a later question or complaint (our legitimate interest in running the service properly)
  • To keep the website secure and available, using the technical logs above (our legitimate interest in a working website)
  • To meet a legal obligation, if one applies to us

What we do not do

We do not use your information for marketing, we do not send newsletters, we do not build a profile of you, we do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not sell your information to anyone.

Who we pass it to

Your enquiry, with the details you gave, is passed to one specialist firm covering the area you told us about, so that they can contact you about it. They use it only to answer your enquiry and to arrange any visit or work you agree with them, and from that point they are responsible for how they handle it. We do not pass your details to anyone else for their own use.

Who handles it for us

Your enquiry is delivered to us by Basin (usebasin.com), which processes it on our instructions and does not use it for its own purposes. The website is served by a content delivery network, which records the technical logs described above on our instructions, and our email is provided by our hosting company. The typefaces on this website are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google; Google's own privacy policy covers that request, and we receive nothing from it. Our professional advisers, and the authorities where the law requires it, may also see your information. Nobody else receives it.

Transfers outside the UK

Most of what we hold stays in the United Kingdom. The delivery network that serves the website has servers in the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States, so the technical logs may be processed there. The form service that delivers your enquiry operates from the United States. Where information leaves the UK we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or on the UK's international data transfer agreement, so that it has the same protection as it would here.

How long we keep it

We keep an enquiry for twelve months from the last contact about it, so that we can answer a later question about what was said and who it went to. After that it is deleted. If work follows, the specialist keeps their own record of that work under their own notice. Technical logs are kept by the delivery network for a short period for security and then deleted.

How we keep it safe

The website and the enquiry form use an encrypted connection, so what you send cannot be read on the way. Your enquiry is held by the services named above, each of which keeps it behind its own access controls, and it is seen only by the people who need to deal with it.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us what personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy; to have it corrected if it is wrong; to have it deleted; to restrict how we use it; to object to our using it; and to receive what you gave us in a form you can take elsewhere. To use any of these rights, contact us at the address or email above. We answer within one month, and we do not charge for it. We may ask you to confirm who you are first. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, so that we can put it right.

Children

This website is for property owners and is not aimed at anyone under eighteen. We do not knowingly collect information from a child; if you believe a child has sent us an enquiry, tell us and we will delete it.

Cookies and similar

This website sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings at any time; doing so does not stop the website working.

Changes to this notice

We update this notice when the way we handle personal information changes, and the version on this page is always the current one. A change that affects you materially will be made clear on this page.
